October 2007: Nedrix simulation focuses on product recall and ethical decision making

Oct. 24, 2007, Newport, RI
The Northeast Disaster Recovery Information Exchange (NEDRIX) held its annual conference and simulation in Newport, RI. The focus of this year's simulation was the process of decision making leading to a product recall. In the simulation, participants were presented with a scenario that was initially vague and somewhat ambiguous. They were then required to integrate information from multiple sources and consider the ethical implications of their decisions.

Guy Sapirstein, a senior partner with Organizational Resilience International, LLC was instrumental in designing the simulation and facilitated the actual simulation exercise. The simulation committee was chaired by Maelyn Arvedon (State Street Corp.) and Gail Coulter (Amica Insurance) and included Diane Thomas (Amica), Susan Kagdis (Varolii), Al Williamson (EDS) and Guy Sapirstein (ORI).

The simulation was on the final day of the conference and was attended by over 60 participants who were randomly divided into smaller groups. Some of the underlying themes addressed by this year's simulation included organizational culture around communication, ethical considerations and the importance of integrating information from multiple sources.
